Ghost Writing
What is ghost writing?
Ghost writing is the work done by a ghostwriter. As spooky as the term sounds, it doesn’t involve writing anything scary (most of the time). A ghost writer is hired by someone who doesn’t have the ______ (insert time/desire/skills) to write a particular piece of work by themselves. Ghost writing is a nameless job, in that you are paid to write something that someone else will claim to have written. Many celebrity autobiographies were actually written by ghostwriters.
What kind of work can a ghostwriter expect?
A freelance ghostwriter’s possibilities are endless. Online, you could find work writing articles (for websites or blogs), and ebooks. In “the real world,” you could be hired to write manuals, novels, screen plays, or other written works.
What does it take to become a ghostwriter?
In a word, experience. A person looking for a ghostwriter wants to know that the person they are hiring has the skill they’re looking for. The only way to prove this effectively is by supplying the client with clips of your previous work. Write online, write for small publications, and work your way up the freelancers’ ladder. After you have a significant number of clips, consider placing ads advertising your services as a ghostwriter.
